It is in the heart of the old city, one of the most important churches, solemn from a religious and artistic point of view.
In the Cathedral are kept the relics in which there are the relics of some saints, among the many those of San Fausto, in the past the faithful could also address their dedication to the most important relic for the city, the breast of Sant 'Agata, which can now be seen in the Basilica of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria in Galatina.
The façade is adorned with Lecce stone and presents the decorative richness typical of the period between the 17th and 18th centuries. The statues on the front depict Sant’Agata, San Fausto, San Sebastiano, Santa Marina and Santa Teresa d’Avila.
The church has a Latin cross with three naves, with two rows of columns in Doric order.
It is a veritable art gallery that exhibits to visitors the most beautiful creations of Gallipoli painters: Giovanni Andrea Coppola and Giovan Domenico Catalano.
